Description
lartteda Store 1" Round Silver Pendant set w/ Pre-Ban Elephant Ivory Ready to Scrimshaw This is just one of many items I have listed. Check out my eBay store. Did you know that there are many more items in eBay Stores than what you see listed? It is a whole new avenue for collectors. And the items are available at Buy It Now prices. No more waiting for an auction to end. Please add me to your Favorite Sellers list. LAST CHANGE! As of Jan. 2008 ALL ivory sales will be banned from eBay. THIS IS NOT MASS PRODUCED! The Ivory has been hand set into a handmade Sterling silver pendant. The silver is stamped with both the sterling mark "925" and the Jeweler's mark on the back. The jeweler's mark is back-to-back R's for Robert Rodman, who, by the way, lives in Idaho. 925 silver is a standard used by craftsmen. Pure silver cannot be used in making jewelry as it is extremely malleable and it can suffer damage easily. It also tends to get very soft, even in conditions of normal temperature. That is why 925 silver is used and not the pure form of the precious metal. This Elephant Ivory Cabochon measures 25mm or 1 inch across. The Ivory is flat and highly polished. Ready to scrimshaw!. . . I know in the photo the silver looks gold but it isn't. It is Sterling Silver. What you see is a reflection. I started doing scrimshaw in summer of 1976. This ivory was purchased between then and 1982. In 1981 I asked my distributors for a copy of their permit. You can see a scan of it below. If you need a copy of this and/or copies of the original reciepts for this ivory they will be supplied on request to the winning bidder. I left the US in 1982 to move to the British Virgin Islands. All my ivory has been in storage all these years. Since I now have arthritis in my hands I can no longer do scrimshaw so I have no longer have any use for it. I hope it goes to someone who can create wonderful works of art with it. I have a lot more ivory. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. No sales outside of the USA. NOTE: The AFRICAN ELEPHANT is on the C.I.T.E.S. Endangered Species List. Importing, buying, and selling of African elephant ivory is not allowed internationally. It cannot be imported into or exported out of the U.S. or practically any other country of the world. It is legal to own, buy, sell or ship within the United States and there are no permits or registration requirements (those were required for importation into the U.S.). The raw elephant ivory available now is all old "estate" or "Pre-Ban" ivory which was legally imported before 1989.
